SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior outside hitter Ashley Muench (Hurdle Mills, N.C./Orange) has earned the Southern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week award for her efforts last week. This is her third Player of the Week honor and second offensive award. The Spartans finished last week 2-0 with a pair of sweeps at Western Carolina Wednesday night and at home against The Citadel Friday.
In the two matches last week, Muench recorded 29 kills on 69 total attacks. She started the week with 15 kills on 39 attacks and a pair of service aces against Western Carolina Wednesday night. During the matchup with The Citadel, the senior notched her 1,400th kill as she helped the Spartans earn the sweep. She scored 14 kills on 30 attempts without making an error against The Citadel Friday. Muench recorded a .467 hitting percentage, the second-best percentage in a SoCon match in her career (minimum 10 attacks).
Defensively Muench led the Spartan defense with 29 digs and recorded a .974 serve reception percentage. She also tied a career best with six blocks, including a pair of solo blocks in the victory over The Citadel.
The volleyball team is back in action this Friday as it kicks off homecoming weekend with a matchup with SoCon-rival ETSU at 6 p.m.
