SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG's Ashley Schnell has been honored as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.
The senior won the Southern Conference Championship Saturday morning for the second-straight year with a time of 16:33.10 on the 5K course, which set a new school record by 46 seconds. Schnell's time also set a new league record by 20 seconds.
The Lincoln, Neb., native is one of seven runners in Southern Conference history who has won the individual title more than once.
Schnell was honored as Runner of the Week twice this season and this is the second time she has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week.
The 2011 SoCon Cross Country Champion maintains a 4.0 GPA in music.
Other nominees included Appalachian State volleyball player Kelsey Sauls, The Citadel football player Domonic Jones, and Elon cross country runner Morgan Denecke.
