UNCG releases 2011 cross country slate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2011 cross country schedule will take UNCG to nine events this fall, highlighted by the NCAA Pre-Nationals, as head coach Linh Nguyen announced the upcoming schedule on Wednesday.
"We've changed up the schedule this year from what it's been in the past," said Nguyen. "We feel that both teams should be very competitive this year and the schedule reflects that belief. Paul Short is a great meet that will test us and give the women a chance to run a 6k during the season. Pre-Nationals is obviously one of the premier meets in the country and should give us a very strong challenge as we head into the championship season of the schedule."
The Spartans will start their season by running at the Guilford College XC Carnival on Sept. 3 in Greensboro before heading to nearby Elon, N.C. on Sept. 17 to compete in the Elon Invitational.
UNCG will then travel to the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. on Aug. 30, while other members of the team will stay in Greensboro to run in the Greensboro XC Invitational the following day.
Two weekends later, the Spartans will be back in action at the prestigious NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. before wrapping up the regular season on Oct. 22 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
UNCG will look to build upon its impressive result last year at the Southern Conference Championship as it will run in the event on Oct. 29 in Charleston, S.C. The team will then head to Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 12 before heading back to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA National Championship.
The team will report for the first day of practice beginning on Aug. 16.
