Spartan cross country teams open season with relay at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Jess Weber and Courtney Fawcett teamed up for a sixth-place finish on the women’s side, while Josh  and T.J. Wyatt teamed up to finish 14th on the men’s side to lead UNC Greensboro as the cross country teams opened the 2006 season at the Charlotte Relay Meet.

The relay consisted of two 5000-meter runs for the men and two 3000-meter runs for the women. The results do not count towards the individual runners’ conference statistics as they are not the traditional 5000 and 8000-meter distances.

Weber and Fawcett completed the full 6000 meters in a time of 23:24.1. Charlotte’s Stephanie Snyder and Aja Jackson won the race in a time of 21:44.8.

The Wyatts, natives of Hope Mills, NC but not related, completed the 10,000 meters  in 32:29.5. Virginia Intermont’s Matt Neff and Andrew Fuller finished in first place with a time of 30:43.7.

Virginia Intermont finished first in the team standings on the men’s side, while Charlotte finished atop the women’s standings. UNCG’s men’s squad finished tied for fourth, while the women were second.

UNCG returns to action on September 16 when it competes at the Winthrop Asics Invitational in Rock Hill, SC.
