UNCG’s Nicholas selected to coach High Performance Select Team
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG volleyball coach Patrick Nicholas has been selected as a coach on one of the 2011 Carolina Region High Performance volleyball teams. Nicholas will serve as the head coach for the Carolina Region Select Team.
The Carolina Region consists of players from across the state of North Carolina.
The team will compete at the 2011 High Performance Championships on July 26-30 in Tucson, Ariz. against other High Performance teams from around the nation.
"I'm pretty excited to get out to Tucson," said Nicholas. "We are going to see all of the top regional teams from around the country, as well as the USA A-2 and A-3 teams.
"I'm pretty honored that they came to me and asked me to get involved in this. It's a huge honor for me, not only personally, but also for UNCG. I'm trying to give the kids the best experience possible and I hope they really get something out of it."
Nicholas is no stranger to working with High Performance teams from around the nation. From 1997-2000, Nicholas served as the head coach of the United States Select National Team.
He served as the on-site director, coordinator and evaluator at the national tryouts for the girl's junior, youth and select teams from 1997-2004. He also was an assistant coach for the USA Women's National A-2 Team in 1999 and 2001.
