Orewiler named to SoCon All-Freshman Team
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG libero Kellie Orewiler was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team in balloting conducted by the league's 12 volleyball coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.
This season, Orewiler has stepped in and been the starting libero for the Spartans in 31 of UNCG's 32 matches. She has also played in 113 of a possible 119 sets.
Orewiler has recorded a team-high 404 digs this year for a 3.58 digs per set average. Her average currently ranks eighth in the Southern Conference this season. She is also second on the team in service aces this season with 26. She currently holds the team record for the most digs in a match this season after recording 24 in the win over Providence on Aug. 28.
During the year, Orewiler was recognized by the Southern Conference as the Freshman of the Week twice. Back on Sept. 20, Orewiler earned the honor the first time after being named the Libero of the Tournament at the Spartan Spiketacular. She earned the award for the second time on Tuesday after averaging 4.55 digs per set over the final week of the regular season.
The Spartans will now face Furman on Friday at 10 a.m. at the SoCon Championships in Boone, N.C.
