GREENSBORO, N.C. – After winning the Spartan Classic title this past weekend, UNCG kept its season rolling as it swept Wingate, 3-0, in an exhibition match on Monday night in Fleming Gymnasium.
Senior Caley Redden led the Spartans with a match-high 15 kills and added 16 digs, which tied a match-high, for a double-double. Freshman Karrian Chambers also had seven kills for UNCG offensively. Billie Baker had double-digit kills with 12 and setter Ari Lysacek had 25 assists.
The Spartans didn't get off to a good start as the Bulldogs led 8-6 early in the first set. Wingate then went on an 8-1 run to open up a 16-7 lead on a UNCG attack error. UNCG continued to fight though and found its groove as the Spartans mounted their comeback.
The Spartans responded with a 12-3 of their own to tie the match at 19 on a kill by Olivia Humphries. The teams still found themselves tied at 24 apiece before a Humphries kill and a block by Baker and Kayren Finney gave UNCG the set, 26-24.

UNCG used another run to take command of the second set. UNCG held a narrow 8-6 lead in the set before going on a 6-2 run to stretch its lead to 14-8. The Spartans continued to roll as they went on to win the set, 25-16.
The third and final set was a little closer between the two sides. UNCG's largest lead in the set was four points at 18-14 as the Bulldogs continued to chip away. Wingate was able to get within 19-18, but the Spartans pulled away late to win the set, 25-21.
The Spartans jump back into regular-season action on Wednesday as they make the short trip to North Carolina Central for a 6 p.m. contest.
