GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG was selected to finish in fourth place in the North Division by the Southern Conference volleyball head coaches, the league announced on Tuesday.
For the second-straight season, the league's coaches picked Samford and College of Charleston to win the North and South Division, respectively.
Following Samford in the North Division was Elon with 52 points and Appalachian State right behind them with 50 points. UNCG was picked fourth with 35 points with Chattanooga and Western Carolina rounding out the division with 27 and 17 points, respectively.
Reigning SoCon Tournament Champion College of Charleston leads the South Division with 62 points followed by Furman with 58 points. Georgia Southern was picked third with 48 points, while Davidson (36 points), Wofford (24) and The Citadel (18) rounded out the division.
Last season, the Spartans went 17-14 overall with a 9-7 mark in Southern Conference action to finish in a tie for third in the North Division with Elon.
UNCG will begin its 2010 campaign this weekend at the Spartan Classic, on the campus of Norfolk State University. The Spartans open their season on Friday against Navy at 1 p.m.
