UNCG's Branagan Fuller to compete in tournament in Croatia
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro volleyball rising junior Branagan Fuller has been selected to the Bring It Promotions (BIP)/USA Developmental Team that will compete at the 2008 Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia from July 21-24.
The 2008 Global Challenge will feature 16 teams with 10 being from Europe and six from the United States. The tournament starts off with a Round Robin format as the field is divided into four pools. The BIP/USA Developmental Team will be in a pool that includes Team Volley Falconara from Italy, Nova KMB Maribor from Slovenia and Montenegro's Club GALEB. Following Round Robin play, the 16 teams compete in Challenge Matches to determine which teams are placed in the Gold and Silver divisions and will compete for the respective division championship.
Fuller is one of 13 players nationwide to be selected to the team and just one of two players from the Southern Conference. Fuller completed a standout sophomore campaign last season. She became UNCG's all-time single-season kills leader with 543, while ranking among the program's single-season leaders for kills per game (second, 4.05) and games played (10th, 134). She was selected as the Southern Conference Player of the Month for September. She garnered All-Tournament honors at the UNCG/HPU Triad Challenge, 2007 Courtyard by Marriott Invitational and the Southern Conference Tournament. Fuller ended her season with a North Carolina Sports Information Association all-state team selection as an outside hitter.
UNCG is set to open the 2008 season at the Holiday Inn Buena Park Titan Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Spartans start the tournament against Pepperdine on Aug. 29 at 7 pm ET. The Spartans conclude the tournament Aug. 30 with a 4 pm ET match against host Cal State Fullerton and a 7:30 pm. ET match versus Delaware.
