SPARTANBURG , SC – UNC Greensboro volleyball player Kaitlyn Nortz has been named this week's Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Nortz has a 3.34 GPA in international business and a recipient of the Coleman Lew Leadership Award from the SoCon last spring. She helped lead the Spartans to a pair of 3-0 sweeps against Appalachian State and Western Carolina last weekend. The senior from Westerville, OH hit .450 for the weekend and notched 14 kills in the win against the Catamounts. The win over Appalachian State gave the Spartans their first season-series sweep over the Mountaineers since 1995.
Nortz also broke the school record for career blocks, surpassing the mark held by Melanie Trexler. Nortz is also third on the school's all-time list in kills.
The Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week award is presented to a student-athlete with a 3.2 GPA or better that has the best performance from the previous week.
