SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro sophomore Kayren Finney was named the Southern Conference's Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday for her outstanding play in two Spartan wins.
Finney, a middle blocker from Danville, VA, hit .636 in two matches to help the Spartans run their winning streak to four straight. The Tunstall HS product had 10 kills and four blocks in UNCG's win at Davidson on Friday night and followed that up with 12 kills and five blocks in the Spartans' sweep over Georgia Southern on Monday night. Against Georgia Southern, Finney had six of her 12 kills in the final set as UNCG picked up its seventh sweep of the season.
With her strong week last week, Finney moved up to ninth in the league in hitting percentage, now hitting .301 for the season. She has 201 kills on the year, second on the team, while leading the team with 89 blocks.
It is the first Volleyball Player of the Week award for the Spartans this season. Kaitlyn Nortz last won the award to close out the 2007 season.
UNCG (15-7, 7-2 SoCon) continues a four-match road swing this weekend when it visits Chattanooga on Saturday and Samford on Sunday.
