GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro volleyball coach Shawn Garus announced the signing of Kayren Finney and Alissa Beaudway to National Letters of Intent.
“The 2007 recruiting class has the size and athleticism to match up with the top teams in our conference,” said Garus. “Both our recruits have been part of successful high school programs so they know how to win.”
Finney, a native of Danville, VA and a Tunstall High School product, was named the 2006 Piedmont District Player of the Year as well as the 2006 Region IV Player of the Year. She also earned first-team All-District and All-Region honors. Finney currently holds Virginia’s high school career kills record.
“Kayren is an impressive athlete. She's 6'2 and moves really well for her size,” said Garus. “I think she will develop into a big time player for the Spartans over the next four years.”
Beaudway, a Granger, IN native, was named to the 2006 Class 4A All-State first team in the middle position. The Penn High School product was a four year starter for Kingsmen. Beaudway also played for the Dunes Black Volleyball Club that finished third at the 2005 U.S. Nationals Open Division.
“Ali is a player that fits really well in our program,” Garus said. “She can play different positions because she is long and incredibly fast. I expect Ali to be ready to play as a freshman.”
