RICHMOND, KY – UNC Greensboro dropped a pair of matches at the EKU/Nike Women’s Volleyball Invitational on Saturday, losing in three straight games to Marquette and falling in four games to UAB.
The Spartans dropped the first match of the day to Marquette (6-4) by scores of 30-16, 30-20, 30-19. UNCG got nine kills from Hilary Overby, but it wasn’t enough to offset a 15-kill performance by the Golden Eagles’ Theresa Coughlin.
In the second match of the day, UNCG battled UAB, but fell in four games by scores of 30-16, 31-33, 34-32, 30-22. The Blazers (9-1), who suffered their first loss of the season earlier in the day at the hands of host Eastern Kentucky, were led by Ivana Bozic, who recorded 29 kills, 13 digs and three aces. The Spartans (1-9) were led by freshman Kaitlyn Nortz with nine kills and six blocks and senior Lori Collins with eight blocks.
UNCG will play host to The Citadel in the Spartans’ SoCon opener on Tuesday at 7 pm at Fleming Gym.
