RALEIGH, N.C. and WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNCG men's and women's track teams wrapped up competition at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday with Haley Wenos setting a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, Ashley Schnell ran at the Winston-Salem State Collegiate Invitational, erasing the school record in the 1,500 meters.
At NC State's Paul Derr Track, Wenos finished in 1:14.84 and was the only member of the women's team competing at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday.
On the men's side, the team of Tyron Alston, John Teeter, Brian Carrington and Dylan Belles clocked a 16:53.64 to finish ninth overall in the 4x1,500 meter relay.
At the Civitan Park/Winston-Salem State University Track & Field Facility, Schnell turned in a time of 4:23.57 to erase a school standard that had stood all of a day. Kerry Hartman set the previous record of 4:27.04 on Friday at the Raleigh Relays.
Schnell's winning time was easily the best in the field, as her nearest competitor finished in 4:59.
The Spartans will be back in action next weekend when they will split the squad, sending delegates to the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., and to the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif.
