CLEMSON, S.C. - Joey Thompson earned All-SoCon honors in the 3,000 meters on Thursday to lead UNC Greensboro at the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Clemson Indoor Facility.
Thompson just barely missed winning the 3,000 meters as his time of 8:15.81 was just .07 behind Cameron Bean from Samford. His time broke his own school record by 14 seconds that he set earlier this season at the Niswonger Invitational.
TJ Wyatt also had a nice afternoon as he qualified for the 800 meter finals with his time of 1:54.76. His time was the third-fastest time in school history in that event.
Shaina Sumney set a new personal-best in the 800 meters with her time of 2:22.01. She came within .26 second of breaking the school record and her time was the third best in school history.
Jermaine Coore set a new personal-best in the 3,000 meters by 10 seconds and Tiffany Garber also set a new personal-best in the 3,000 meters.
The Spartans return to action on Friday as they compete in the second day of the 2010 SoCon Indoor Championships.
