Spartans wrap up 2010 SoCon Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. - Sophomore Joey Thompson was named All-SoCon for the second time in as many days to lead UNC Greensboro on the final day of the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Clemson Indoor Facility.

After garnering honors in the 3,000 meters on Thursday, Thompson was edged out again as he finished in second in the mile to be named All-SoCon. His time of 4:13.93 was just .23 seconds behind the winner and three seconds shy of the school record he set three weeks ago.

Mike Koech had a nice afternoon as well as he finished in eighth place and earned All-Freshman honors in the 5,000 meters with his time of 14:50.41. His time was almost a second faster than the school record that he set two weeks ago at the Tiger Paw Invitational.

Numerous other runners set personal bests on Friday as well. Jenna Paley set a new personal best in the 5,000 meters by almost 16 seconds and both Taylor Day and Brian Carrington set new marks for themselves in the mile.
