13 Spartans earn Academic All-Conference honors

SPARTANBURG, SC – Thirteen UNCG student-athletes were among the 160 named to the Southern Conference’s 2008-09 Winter Academic All-Conference team Thursday.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently-concluded campaign.

The 160 student-athletes, which participated in men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling and men’s and women’s indoor track and field, averaged a 3.54 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Chattanooga junior distance runner David Moore, the eighth-place finisher in the 3,000-meter run at the 2009 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships, led the way conference-wide with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Cory Bowen had the best GPA amidst the honorees with a 3.74.

This is the seventh year that the Southern Conference has named an Academic All-Conference Team by season.
