Thompson named to All-Freshman team at SoCon Championships

GREENSBORO, NC – Freshman Joey Thompson’s school record in the 3,000 meters highlighted UNC Greensboro’s day one at the Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Thompson’s time of 8:30.40 broke his own school record that he set earlier this season at the 31st Annual Niswonger Invitational.  For his efforts he was also named to the All-Freshman Team for that event.

Terry Wyatt also helped pace the men’s squad as his time of 1:55.97 in the 800 meters was a personal best as well as the second-best time in school history at that event.

Tiffany Garber helped lead the women’s team with her performance in the 3,000 meters.  Her time of 10:39.91 was her best time of her career in that event and the third best time in school history in the 3,000 meters.

The Spartans were led by Michelle Chewens in the 800 meters after her time of 2:24.23 was less than a second off the season-high.

The 2009 SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships will resume tomorrow morning in Clemson, SC.
