Clyne leads UNCG at Carolina Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Andy Clyne’s sixth place finish in the mile run led the UNC Greensboro track & field team at the Carolina Invitational on Friday evening in Chapel Hill, NC.

Clyne’s time of 4:24.23 in the mile broke his personal and team-best time this season by over six seconds.  His previous best was 4:30.79 that he ran at the Liberty Open.

Another highlight for the Spartans was Michelle Chewens in the 800m.  Her time of 2:23.55 was not only a personal best, but it was also the fourth fastest time in school history.

Sophomore Taylor Hurst also had one of the best runs of his career.  Hurst ran a 53.06 in the 400m which is just .01 seconds behind his personal best.  The time was also good enough for fourth place in school history in the 400m.

The Spartans will now have two weeks off before competing at the 2009 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.  Located in Clemson, SC, the championships will be Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, Mar. 1.
