UNCG closes action at International Friendship and Freedom Games

GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro track and field teams closed action at the International Friendship and Freedom Games held on the campus of North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

The Spartans recorded nine Top 10 finishes on the afternoon and were lead by a second place finish in the men’s 4 x 800 relay. The relay crossed the finish line in a time of 8:03.14 just three seconds ahead of UNCG’s “B” relay which took third place with a time of 8:06.13.

The men and women’s 4 x 400 relays also tallied top 10 finishes on the afternoon. The women’s relay took seventh place with a time of 4:10.42, which sets a new school record, while the men’s team took sixth place with a time of 3:30.21.

The Spartans took the top spots in the 3000M on the men and women’s sides. Caitlin Lenz took the top spot with a time of 12:38.07 while Becca Colangelo finished in second place with a time of 13:06.35, both times are new personal records.

On the men’s side Ryan Solomon and Xavier Rutz finished in the top two spots. Solomon crossed the finish line with a time of 9:51.84 while Rutz took second with a time of 9:52.02. 

UNCG will head to Cullowhee, NC next week for the 2008 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Western Carolina.
