WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Freshman AJ Savoia took a seventh place finish in the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:33.99 to lead the UNC Greensboro track and field team in spring action at the Wake Forest Open on Friday. Savoia set a new school record with the time breaking a six-year old record previously held by Joe Jacobs and qualified for the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals.
Josh Wyatt also had a good day for the Spartans and took 12th place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32.12.37. Teammate Justin Ruppe recorded the other Top 20 finish for the Spartans with a 19th place finish in the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:18.90.
Jess Weber led the women with a 43 rd place showing in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.28. Sherrika Jordan and Michelle Chewens also ran the 800 meter finishing in 48th and 83rd place, respectively. Mary Ann Rutz competed in the 5000 meter run and took 24th place with a time of 19:02.26.
UNCG will conclude action at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday.
