CLEMSON, SC – Jeff Williams qualified for the finals in the 800 meters and UNCG’s distance medley relay team finished second on the first day of the 2007 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Clemson University.
With six events completed, UNCG’s men’s team is in fifth place with nine points. Appalachian State leads the meet with 106.5 points, a comfortable 34 points ahead of second place Western Carolina. UNCG’s women did not have any competitors in Saturday’s events, but will begin action on Sunday.
Williams, a senior from South Plainfield, NJ, finished third in the preliminary heat in a time of 1:57.46 to advance to Sunday’s final.
UNCG’s Ramon Jobson-Brown also scored points in action on Saturday, finishing eight in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 3-1/2 inches. The leap was a personal record for the sophomore from Loganville, GA.
Action continues at the meet beginning Sunday morning.
