CHAPEL HILL, NC – Charles Jones topped his own school record in the triple jump, moving closer to possible NCAA qualification, to highlight UNC Greensboro’s performances at the Carolina Invitational on Saturday.
Jones leaped 15.35 meters, besting his mark set earlier this year at the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, TN. The NCAA provisional qualification mark is 15.50 meters. His mark of 15.35 meters, which he recorded twice, was good for second place.
“We came away from this meet with several personal records and a lot of great efforts,” said UNCG coach Rachelle Roberts. “Charles Jones had an outstanding series of jumps, three over 15 meters and two at 15.35. I look for him to make the NCAA Provisional Standard very soon.”
Along wth Jones’ school record, Nick Vaccaro (men’s 800 meters), Xavier Rutz (men’s 3000 meters), Brandon Spencer (men’s weight throw) and Jess Weber (women’s 800 meters) each recorded personal bests in their respective events.
UNCG returns to Chapel Hill for a third straight week next Saturday for the Carolina Classic.
