Women's Tennis Hosts Campbell Saturday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's tennis program will host Campbell at the UNCG tennis courts, Saturday, Feb. 9, at noon.
The Spartans are coming off of a tough 7-0 loss to NC State on Thursday, resulting in a 0-2 record so far this season.
Senior Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) dropped a close 7-5, 6-3 match to No. 33 Joelle Kissell, before classmate Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) lost in a tough three sets to Rachael James-Baker, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
Junior Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey / Gunes Koleji) also fought in a three-set match, but Nicole Martinez of NC State took the win, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain / Tile Hill Wood School) lost against Chloe Smith in a third-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2).
Campbell holds a 1-3 record on the season with their lone win coming against Temple, 3-2 at the VCU Invitational on Jan. 18. The Camels dropped their last match against North Carolina with a close 4-3 on Feb. 2.
