WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) got UNCG's lone singles win by defeating Erica White from Gardner-Webb, 6-3, 6-0 Friday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships. 

"We had a disappointing day," said head coach Jeff Trivette. "We are playing some very good tennis, we just need to learn how to close out our matches. We have the potential to be a very good team."

Junior Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey / Gunes Koleji) dropped a tough third-set tiebreaking match against UNCW's Angie Sekely, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).

Senior Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) lost 6-2, 6-3 to Beatrice Gumulya from Clemson, while classmate Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador / Liceo Latinoamericano) fell to Elon's Frida Jansacker.

In doubles play, Wilkins and Whitehead competed against UNC's DeBruycker and Slater, but lost 8-3. 

Play at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships continues Saturday, Oct. 20.
