Women’s Tennis Earns Multiple Academic Honors From ITA
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's tennis team has been named a 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team for NCAA Division I while five Spartan student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes, it was announced Monday.
The five UNCG student-athletes honored as Scholar Athletes include Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia/Star of the Sea College), Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador/Liceo Latinoamericano), Lucy Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia/Methodist Ladies College), Mikayla Rogers (Salem, Ore./Sprague) and Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga./Walton).
Dougherty has earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors four times in her career while Whitehead has picked up the accoaldes three years in a row. Additionally, the women's tennis team placed seven members on the SoCon Academic Honor Roll this year with three members earning commissioner's medals.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
