Spartans roll past Longwood, 6-1
FARMVILLE, Va. – UNCG's women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Longwood on Thursday.
UNCG (4-3) took wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to clinch the point and the early 1-0 lead. Niltooli Wilkins and Lucy Dougherty picked up an 8-4 win over Malin Allgurin and Allison Shulman at No. 1, while Kayla Gammie and Annette Rios grabbed an 8-5 win over Sarah Moomau and Marta Pinyol at No. 2.
Hannah Hill and Nicole Parker downed Stephanie Falcon and Devon Sutherland at No. 3, 8-7 (7-3).
In singles play, UNCG took wins in the top five flights. Wilkins and Dilara Yurtkuran both rebounded from first-set losses, with Wilkins topping Pinyol at No. 1, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Yurtkuran defeating Shulman at No. 2, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Rios picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Allgurin at No. 3 and Falcon earned a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Hill at No. 4, rallying from a 5-1 deficit in the third set. Sutherland rolled to a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Hill at No. 5, but the Lancers (1-6) avoided the sweep with Law's 6-3, 6-3 win over Gammie at No. 6.
UNCG is back in action Saturday at UNCW at 11 a.m.
