CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNCG's women's tennis team took on players from Princeton, Minnesota and Furman on the second day of action at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, hosted by North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

 

UNCG took on Princeton in singles and doubles. In singles play, Annette Rios and Stephanie Falcon picked up the Spartans' lone wins Saturday. Rios topped Joan Cannon by a 6-2, 7-6 (5) score, while Falcon downed Caitlin Bartlett 6-1, 6-1.

 

Princeton took the other four matches. Hilary Bartlett defeated Niltooli Wilkins (6-4, 7-6 (4)), Lindsay Graff beat Dilara Yurtkuran (6-3, 6-1), Katie Goepel downed Alex Whitehead (6-4, 6-1) and Monica Chow topped Lucy Dougherty (6-4, 7-5).

 

The Spartans got their revenge in doubles play against the Tigers, sweeping the three matches. Dougherty and Wilkins dropped Hilary Bartlett and Graff, 8-6, while Whitehead and Yurtkuran defeated Cannon and Chow, 8-4. Rios and Kayla Gammie completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over Caitlin Bartlett and Goepel.

 

In other singles action, Wilkins earned UNCG's lone win against Minnesota, her former team. Wilkins, who transferred from Minnesota prior to the 2010-11 season, dropped former teammate Magdalena Wiecha, 6-4, 6-3. The Golden Gophers took the other five matches, with Yuliana Umanets, Natallia Pintusava, Doron Muravnik, Aria Lambert and Emilie Renault defeating Yurtkuran, Whitehead, Rios, Falcon and Devon Sutherland, respectively.

 

Gammie also took on Furman's Kelsey Kinderknecht, picking up a 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (14) win.

 

UNCG wraps up its fall campaign Sunday in the final day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
