CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNCG's Niltooli Wilkins picked up her second win over a ranked opponent in singles play this season to highlight the Spartans' first day of action at the Kitty Harrison Invitational at North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Friday.

Wilkins topped NC State's Tatiana Illova, 6-0, 6-3. It was Wilkins' second win of the fall season over Illova, ranked No. 114 in the ITA's preseason rankings.

Freshman Stephanie Falcon also grabbed a win over the Wolfpack, taking down Sophie Nelson by a 7-5, 6-2 score.

NC State's Ashley Miller topped Dilara Yurtkuran 6-1, 6-2, while Elisha Hande dropped the Spartans' Alex Whitehead by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Christy Sipes downed Lucy Dougherty 6-0, 6-4 and Chloe Smith defeated Annette Rios 6-1, 6-3 as the Wolfpack took four of the six singles matches against the Spartans.

UNCG's Devon Sutherland took on Virginia's Molly O'Koniewski in the Spartans' other singles match of the day, dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision.

In doubles play, Sutherland teamed with Falcon to down Virginia's Marjorie Baker and Clare Spooner, 8-2. Ninth-ranked Lindsey Hardenbergh and Erin Vierra avenged an early season loss to UNCG's Wilkins and Dougherty with an 8-4 triumph Friday, while Li Xi and Caryssa Peretz teamed up to drop Whitehead and Yurtkuran by an 8-6 score.

Maria Fuccillo and O'Koniewski defeated UNCG's Kayla Gammie and Rios by an 8-3 score.

The Spartans took three of four doubles matches against Southern Conference foe Furman. Whitehead and Dougherty claimed an 8-4 win over Margaret Boyette and Katherine Oudin, and Yurtkuran and Whitehead dropped Alex Moreno-Kaste and Kelly Sullivan, 8-5. Rios and Gammie picked up an 8-2 win over Kelsey Kinderknecht and Olivia Maurice, while Kinderknecht and Amanda Murray defeated Sutherland and Falcon by an 8-4 score for the Paladins' lone win.

UNCG continues play at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Saturday.
