UNCG to play for pair of doubles titles Sunday at UVa Fall Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – UNCG won six of its seven matches Saturday at the UVa Fall Invitational and will see both of its doubles teams will play for flight titles Sunday, while Niltooli Wilkins will play for the A Singles consolation title.

Wilkins and Lucy Dougherty, who knocked off the ninth-ranked doubles team in Friday's action, cruised to an 8-2 win over Wake Forest's Brigita Bercyte and Karen Forman in their first match Saturday then punched their ticket to the A Doubles final with an 8-6 win over Winthrop's Yasmine Alkema and Andressa Garcia in the semifinals.

Wilkins and Dougherty will face another top-10 tandem Sunday in Wake Forest's Kathryn Talbert and Kayla Duncan, who are ranked seventh by the ITA.

Devon Sutherland and Stephanie Falcon, who took down the B Doubles' top-seeded team Friday, earned their spot in the flight's title match with an 8-4 win over NC State's Christy Sipes and Sophie Nelson. Sutherland defeated Nelson in singles play on Friday.

In singles action, Wilkins downed Marshall's Domincka Zaprazna to reach Sunday's consolation final. Wilkins gutted out a 7-5 win in the first set before handily winning the second, 6-0. The Burnsville, Minn., native will take on No. 125 Marlen Mesgarzadeh of William & Mary in the consolation title match.

Dougherty won her lone singles match of the day, picking up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Old Dominion's Melissa Ensal-Olguin in the B Singles flight. She will face William & Mary's Nina Vulovich, the top seed in the flight, on Sunday.

In C Singles, Sutherland dropped a 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5) decision to Marshall's Ellie Ball in the consolation semis. Falcon improved to 3-0 in the C Singles round robin, dropping ODU's Nika Khmolovska, 6-2, 6-2.

All told, the Spartans were victorious in six of their seven matches Saturday, going 3-for-4 in singles and 3-for-3 in doubles.

Play at the UVa Fall Invitational concludes Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
