Wilkins earns top 50-win as UNCG opens play at Kitty Harrison
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNCG's Niltooli Wilkins earned a pair of singles wins, including a win over a top 50 opponent, as the Spartans opened play Friday at the Kitty Harrison Invitational.
Wilkins topped William & Mary's Hope Johnson, 6-4 and 6-1, before downing No. 49-ranked Hilary Bartlett in a three-setter. Wilkins lost the first set, 6-2, before winning the second by a 6-3 score and then winning a 10-point tie-breaker, 10-7, to claim the match.
Stephanie Macfarlane, Dilara Yurtkuran and Annette Rios each went 1-1 in singles play on the day to open the tournament, as well.
Tournament play continues on Saturday.
