Whitehead and Macfarlane claim third in doubles on final day at UVA
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Redshirt sophomore Niltooli Wilkins lost in her singles final, but Alex Whitehead and Stephanie Macfarlane won the third place match in Flight B doubles as play concluded Sunday at the UVA Women's Tennis Fall Invitational.
Whitehead and Macfarlane topped Karlyn Timko and Kara Kucin, 8-6, to win the third place match in Flight B doubles. That was UNCG's only win of the day other than Whitehead's win by default in the consolation third place match of Flight C singles.
Wilkins suffered her first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to Virginia's Maria Fuccillo, 6-2 and 6-4. She had won her first six matches of the fall for the Spartans after transferring in this year from University of Minnesota.
The Spartans return to action on October 1 when they go to Colorado for the Air Force Invitational.
