DAVIDSON, N.C. – UNCG's women's tennis team will open the fall portion of the 2010-11 season this weekend when it travels to the Davidson Fall Invitational.
The Spartans will play against Elon, Davidson and Gardner-Webb in flighted competition on Friday and Saturday. It will be the first of seven events the Spartans are slated to play in this fall.
UNCG returns five players from last season's squad, including top player Lucy Dougherty who missed most of last season due to injury. Dougherty is still a few weeks away from returning to the lineup, which will give Niltooli Wilkins a chance to play near the top of the lineup. She transferred to UNCG from the University of Minnesota this summer. Wilkins won an ITA Summer Series event in Arlington, Texas, last month, knocking off two of Tennessee's incoming freshmen on the way to the championship. She went 14-9 in singles for Minnesota in 2008-09, but did not appear in a match last season.

Along with Wilkins, the Spartans also added freshmen Devon Sutherland from Lake Wylie, S.C. and Dilara Yurtkuran from Istanbul, Turkey.
