Niltooli Wilkins wins ITA Summer Series event

ARLINGTON, Texas – Niltooli Wilkins, who recently transferred to UNCG to play women's tennis, won the ITA Summer Series event at UT-Arlington last week.

Wilkins, who spent the last two seasons at the University of Minnesota, earned a pair of straight set wins to get to the quarterfinal round before knocking off 11th-seeded Whitney Wofford, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0, with 12-10 score in the 10-point tiebreaker. Wofford will be a freshman for national-power Tennessee this season.

Wilkins then knocked off another soon-to-be Lady Vol in defeating Millie Nichols, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0, with a 10-4 score in the 10-pointer to advance to the finals. Wilkins won by retirement in the finals over No. 4 seed Ana Guzman.

A native of Burnsville, Minn., was 14-9 in singles play for the Gophers in 2008-09, including a 10-8 mark in dual match play. She was also 11-7 in doubles action. She did not appear in a match last season. At Burnsville HS, she was the state singles title, losing only one set all season and that came in the state final.
