Trio earn second-team All-SoCon honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro's Annette Rios, Alex Whitehead and Mikayla Rogers earned second-team All-Southern Conference honors when postseason honors were announced by the league office. Whitehead earned the honors both in singles and doubles play.
Whitehead earned all-league honors in singles action and also earned doubles accolades alongside Rogers in doubles play. Whitehead, who had to play ahead in the lineup all season long due to an injury to Lucy Dougherty early in the spring, Whitehead went 5-5 in league play at No. 1 singles.
Playing with Rogers in doubles play, Whitehead and Rogers were a perfect at 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, including a 7-0 mark in league play.
Rios earned second-team honors at No. 5 singles, going 9-1 in SoCon play this spring on her way to a 16-5 spring mark and 23-8 mark overall. She had an eight-match winning streak at one point during the season. She was clutch throughout the season, winning her last nine matches that had to go to a decisive third set.
Rios and Whitehead also earned all-freshman honors in the voting by the league's coaches.
