Spartans fall in finals at UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Freshman Alex Whitehead's incredible run through her first collegiate tournament came to an end on Sunday as she fell in the Flight C singles final and also suffered the same fate with partner Stephanie Macfarlane in the Flight C doubles final.

Whitehead fell to Neela Vaez from Virginia in the Flight C singles final, 6-2, 6-2. Later in the day, she joined teammate MacFarlane in the Flight C doubles final. The duo fell to Carmen Pop and Marlen Mesgarzedah from William & Mary, 8-4.

Lucy Dougherty dropper her match in the Flight "B" third-place consolation match to Carissa King from Dartmouth, 6-3, 6-2.

UNCG will return to the court on Friday as the Spartans travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Wake Forest Invitational.
