Rios continues winning ways, but UNCG falls to Samford

GREENSBORO, N.C.  - UNC Greensboro's Annette Rios won for the eighth time in her last 10 outings and ran her record to 18-7 on the season, but the Spartans fell short against Samford, 4-3, in women's tennis action on Friday afternoon.

Rios topped Rebecca Kirven in a wild match at No. 5 singles. Kirven won the first set in tiebreaker, while Rios won the second in a tiebreaker. Rios then claimed a 10-point tiebreaker win for the third set, 10-7, for the victory.

The Spartans (7-8, 2-4) also got singles victories from Valerie Behr and Mikayla Rogers on the afternoon. Behr moved to 10-5 for the spring and 14-16 overall when she beat Madelie VanRensburg in three sets at No. 3 singles. Rogers had a much easier time with Stephanie Parkison, winning at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-1, to moved to 14-13 overall and 6-9 for the spring slate.

UNCG will look to bounce back when it hosts Appalachian State at 12 noon on Saturday.
