CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - UNC Greensboro freshman Alex Whitehead won her first two matches as a Spartan to earn a spot in the semifinals of the "C" flight at the UVA Fall Invitational women's tennis tournament on Friday.
Whitehead, a native of Victoria, Australia, topped fourth-seeded Kara Kucin, 6-2 and 6-3, in her first match on her way to the semifinals where she will play at 2:15 Saturday against top-seeded Anik Cepeda.
Doubles play will get under way on Saturday morning. Three other Spartans will continue play in consolation brackets on Saturday afternoon.
