WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - On the opening day of play at the ITA Carolina's Regional, UNC Greensboro saw one of its doubles teams advance to the second round and join two others that had opening round byes.
Annette Rios and Jess Eblen took care of Katheryna Chorna and Oleysa Palko from North Carolina Central by an 8-4 score to advance to Friday's second round.
Four Spartans played in the qualifying singles bracket on Thursday, trying to gain a bid into the main draw on Friday. Lucy Dougherty was the only one to win an opening round match, defeating East Carolina's Tamara Sachs, 6-1 and 7-6. However, she fell to Jennifer Stone from North Carolina in the second round, 6-0 and 6-2.
The three doubles pairs and Valerie Behr in singles play will be in action when play resumes on Friday.
