VonStrolley named SoCon Women's Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro senior Arielle VonStrolley has been named Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from April 6-12, the league office announced Tuesday.

She becomes the third different Spartan to win the weekly award this season, joining senior Alejandra Guerra and freshman .  VonStrolley finished 3-0 in both singles and doubles competition last week as the Spartans collected wins over East Carolina (4-3), Chattanooga (7-0) and Samford (6-1).  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league's sports information directors.

VonStrolley, a native of Ocho Rios, Jamaica, started the week with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over East Carolina 's Natalie Collins at No. 3 singles.  She collected wins over Chattanooga 's Charlotte Bossy (6-0, 6-3) and Samford's Stephanie Parkinson (6-2, 6-4). VonStrolley did not lose a set last week and improved her record to 11-6 this spring, including a 7-2 mark in conference play.  She is 7-3 in her last 10 singles matches.   

The duo of VonStrolley and Guerra went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles last week.  They defeated East Carolina's Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler, 8-3, before topping Chattanooga 's Emily Hangstefer and Grace Robinette, 8-1.  VonStrolley and Guerra downed Samford's Taylor Morgan and Stephanie Parkinson at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.  Von Strolley and Guerra are 14-4 this spring and 8-2 in league competition.

UNCG was in action at Appalachian State on Tuesday afternoon in the regular season finale.
