COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNC Greensboro finished its two-day road swing in Colorado with a pair of wins, downing host Air Force, 4-3, late Monday night and closing things out with a 5-2 win over Northern Colorado on Tuesday morning.
The Spartans topped the Falcons late Monday after Valerie Behr staved off three match points and won a three-set thriller over Sarah Cassman, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 with a 7-3 score in the tiebreaker. UNCG (4-2) also got a straight-set win from Alejandra Guerra at No. 1 singles and a three-set victory at No. 5 singles by Lucy Dougherty. The Spartans won two of the three doubles matches, including a 9-8 thriller by Behr and Dougherty to claim the point. The duo won the tie-breaker 10-8.
On Tuesday morning, UNCG got straight-set wins by Guerra, Dougherty, Arielle VonStrolley and Jess Eblen to roll to their fourth straight win. Guerra, currently ranked No. 89 in the ITA's Top 125, ran her mark to 12-5 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tabatha Knop.
The Spartans return to action on March 11 when they visit backyard-rival Elon for a Southern Conference match-up at 3 pm.
