UNCG downs Davidson, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Alejandra Guerra won her 10th straight match and UNCG stayed within striking distance of the top of the Southern Conference women's tennis standings with a 5-2 win at Davidson on Wednesday night.

Guerra, a senior from Tampico, Mexico, ran her mark to 22-7 overall this season and 15-0 against SoCon foes all-time. Ranked No. 82 in the nation currently, Guerra downed Michele Fanney, 6-1 and 6-0, after teaming up with Arielle VonStrolley for a 9-8 win in doubles play to give UNCG an early 1-0 lead.

The Spartans also got singles victories from VonStrolley, Britney Cloer and Lucy Dougherty in raising their record to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. The Spartans are in third place in the league, a game behind College of Charleston and a half-game behind Furman. Dougherty's win was her 15th of the season (15-8) and 10th in her last 11 matches.

UNCG returns to action when it hosts Wofford on Saturday in another SoCon match.
