Guerra earns another win over ranked opponent, but falls in semifinals

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – UNC Greensboro's Alejandra Guerra split a pair of matches at the ITA All-American on Thursday, but the loss knocked her out in the consolation bracket's semifinal round of the Riviera ITA All-American.

Guerra, ranked No. 114 in the ITA preseason Top 125, toppled No. 64-ranked Hannah Grady of Long Beach State, 6-1 and 6-1 in the quarterfinal round. But the senior from Tampico, Mexico lost to Taylor Ormand of Baylor, 6-2, 7-5. Ormond was ranked No. 34 in the ITA's preseason rankings. Despite the loss, Guerra, who is the first Spartan to ever earn a preseason national ranking, is now 4-1 over players ranked  this season. Winner of 25 of her last 28 matches, Guerra is now 8-3 on the season.

As a team, UNCG returns to action next weekend at the UNCW Fall Invitational beginning October 10.
