UNCG falls in season opener at No. 18 North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Going up against the No. 18-ranked team in the nation, UNC Greensboro was shutout in its women's tennis spring season opener, 7-0, by North Carolina.
The Tar Heels, featuring two Top 100-ranked players and ranked No. 18 as a team in the first ITA rankings of the spring, swept through all six singles matches in straight sets. In a match-up of Top 50-ranked players, Sanaz Marand, ranked No. 47, defeated UNCG's Alejandra Guerra, 6-2 and 6-4. Guerra, ranked No. 40 in the nation currently, is the highest ranked player in UNCG history.
UNCG returns to action on February 8 when the Spartans visit No. 20-ranked Florida State for a 2 pm match.
