WILMINGTON, NC – Four singles players and three doubles tandems advanced in the winner’s bracket during the first day of the UNC Wilmington Invitational Women’s Tennis Tournament.
The Spartans will be represented in all three doubles finals when
play resumes on Saturday morning. Alejandra Guerra and Arielle
VonStrolley advanced in the Flight A to tomorrow’s final
against Kennesaw State’s Madeline Hakansson and Ayano Tanaka
after a bye and a second round win on Friday. In addition, Erica
Zabkar and Britney Cloer will play in the Flight B finals after
winning twice on Friday and Courtney Akel and Sarah Templeton will
play in the Flight C championship.
In singles action, Guerra defeated Radford’s Mirna Matic of Radford, 6-1 and 6-0, in a Flight A first round match. Jess Eblen, Akel and Zabkar all advanced in Flight B action with opening round wins.
Action resumes on Saturday with the doubles finals at 8:30 am.
