Behr, Zabkar advance in singles action at ITA Regional
CHAPEL HILL, NC – UNC Greensboro’s Valerie Behr and Erica Zabkar both won a pair of qualifying matches to advance to the main bracket in singles action at the ITA Southeast Regional Women’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by North Carolina.
In addition, two doubles tandems advanced to the second round. Behr and Jess Eblen won an opening round pro-set, as did Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley.
Behr rallied in both of her matches. She began by coming back to beat Clemson’s Sam Eppelsheimer, dropping the first set by a 7-5 score before winning the next two, 6-4 and 6-3. She then topped North Carolina's Linzee Maybry, 7-6, 0-6, 6-0, in a wild match.
Zabkar came back from down a set to top Lauren Holton of Appalachian State, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the opening round. Then, she blasted sixth-seeded Lindsey Jones of Louisville, 6-3 and 6-2.
Action continues Friday morning.
