Zabkar seals win on Senior Day as Spartans top Wofford

GREENSBORO, NC – On her senior day, it was Erica Zabkar’s win at No. 5 singles that sealed the victory as UNC Greensboro topped Wofford, 4-3, in women’s tennis action Sunday afternoon.

Zabkar, UNCG’s lone senior and a native of Atlanta, GA, topped Haley Baird, 7-6 and 6-1, including 7-3 in the first set tie-breaker, as the Spartans moved to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in SoCon play. The Spartans will be the No. 4 seed in next weekend’s Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament in Charleston, SC. UNCG will face Elon in Friday’s quarterfinal round.

In the other storyline of the day, Alejandra Guerra completed her perfect run through the SoCon regular season. She topped Wofford’s Merry Ellen Henry, 6-3 and 6-1, to complete her SoCon slate 9-0 and win her 15th straight match.

UNCG’s Arielle VonStrolley and Valerie Behr also record straight-set wins to seal the victory after Wofford won the doubles point to gain an early 1-0 lead.
