UNCG continues winning ways, tops Western Carolina

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro won for the sixth time in its last seven outings and locked up a spot in the 4-5 match in next weekend’s Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 7-0 win over Western Carolina on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans swept through the singles with six-straight set wins and won all three doubles pro-sets to improve to 11-9 overall, 5-3 in SoCon action. UNCG, currently fourth, owns the tiebreaker over Elon, which is 4-4 in league play. Wofford, sitting at 4-4 in conference action after a loss to Davidson on Friday, visits UNCG on Sunday to close out the season.

Junior Alejandra Guerra won easily to extend her winning streak to 15 straight matches. The Tampico, Mexico native topped Jessie Salame, 6-2 and 6-0, to move to 8-0 in SoCon action this season.

The bottom of the UNCG line-up was equally dominant. Senior Erica Zabkar topped Susanna Sjokuist at No. 5 singles, 6-1 and 6-0, while sophomore Jess Eblen swept past Emily Turke, 6-0 and 6-0.
