SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro’s Alejandra Guerra was named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday for her outstanding play last week.
Guerra, a junior from Tampico, Mexico, went 3-0 last week at No. 1 singles with wins against Appalachian State’s Anja Gugger, 6-0 and 6-0, and Chattanooga’s Lindsay Ballard, 6-2 and 6-0. She defeated Furman’s Laura Gioia, who was ranked 86th in the nation, 6-2 and 6-4. Guerra has now won 11 straight singles matches and is 12-2 on the spring season.
In doubles action, Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley were undefeated this week with wins over conference foes Monica Toms and Mallory Cook of Appalachian State, 8-0, Furman’s Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic, 8-4, and Chattanooga’s Lindsay Ballard and Grace Robinette, 8-2. They are now 4-1 in conference matches and 9-4 overall.
UNCG returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts High Point at 2 pm.
