Guerra runs winning streak to 10 straight, but UNCG falls to Furman

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Alejandra Guerra won her 10th straight match and ran her spring season record to 11-2, but UNC Greensboro dropped a 6-1 decision to Furman in Southern Conference women’s tennis action.

The junior from Tampico, Mexico topped Laura Gioia at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-4, for UNCG’s lone point of the day. Gioia was ranked No. 84 in the last ITA College Rankings on March 16. Guerra also teamed up with Arielle VonStrolley for a doubles’ win, topping Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic, 8-4.

However, the Paladins (10-5, 3-0), ranked No. 68 in the team rankings this week, won the remaining five singles matches in straight-sets and the other two doubles pro-sets to earn their fifth win in their last six outings.

UNCG (5-8, 2-2) will host Chattanooga at 7:30 a.m. in a match at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
